Dog food of cheap quality contains various harmful ingredients which can affect the health of your dog in a negative way.  Various harmful by products and fillers are present in such food which have almost zero nutrition. Determining the right amount of food:

The amount of food which should be given to a Pom depends on the age, size, metabolism and activity level of the dog. However, recommended daily amount for average Pomeranian adult is 1/4 to 1/2 cup of high-quality dry food a day which should be given in two meals. For puppies, use the following slab:

  • 1/2 cup of food for 1 pound puppy.
  • 1 cup of food for 3 pounds puppy.
  • 25 cups of food for 5 pounds puppy.
  • 2 cups of food for 6 pounds puppy.

The diet of pregnant, senior and inactive Pomeranians should be changes according to their requirements after consulting with the vet.

Meal frequency:

Pomeranians burn calories at a faster rate as compared to various other dog breeds. They have high energy levels and require food at regular intervals. A growing Pomeranian pup should be fed three to four times in a day. When the dog has become adult, he should be fed the same amount of food two times a day.

Pomeranian loves homemade food. If you are offering him homemade food, it is very important to take care of nutrients. Offering table scarp to the dog is not healthy at all. Include these ingredients in your dog’s homemade food:

  • Organs such as brains, kidneys and liver
  • Lean meats including fish, white breast chicken and lean Hamburg
  • Sweet or regular potatoes, spinach, baby carrots, zucchini and broccoli (No corn please)
  • White or Brown rice
  • Pasta
  • Meat

There should be an ideal balance of proteins, carbohydrates, fats and vitamins in the diet of your dog. To be more specific, 40 % meat, 30 % starch and 30 % vegetables are perfect.

  • Chocolate
  • Caffeine
  • Onions
  • Garlic
