Rabbits can prove to be excellent companions to humans just like dogs and cats and if you can learn to talk Rabbit you’ll know that they are more than just a cute eye candy. Rabbits’  body language and sounds they make can tell us a great deal about the way your bunny feels in your home and presence. You would be pleasantly surprised to know that your pet rabbit has his/her ways to tell you how much it loves you. A little peek into the rabbit behavior and language below can motivate you into going that extra mile to continue to enjoy being your bunny’s object of affection!

Rabbit Gestures that Signal Love for the Owner

1. Does your rabbit try to groom you: Rabbits not only self groom by licking their fur but also indulge in grooming other rabbits around it. If your bunny licks your hands/face then it surely feels very connected to you.

2. The rabbit is comfortable in your presence & continues to enjoy other activities: This is a healthy sign that the pet is comfortable in its surroundings and not fearful. Rabbits being prey animals are instinctively alert so that they can timely escape a threatening stimulus. However if the bunny busies itself in grooming, eating hay/leafy veggies, or sleeps then be sure that it feels safe and at home.

3. When your rabbit Nudges you with its nose: A gentle nudge is the rabbit’s way of saying hello to you. A hard nudge from the rabbit means that you are blocking its way and need to move aside. A hard nudge could also mean that the rabbit wants to be on its own.

4. Wants to play with you: Your pet bunny will come to you, then nudge or softly bites your feet after which it will run away shaking its head and jerking/jolting its tail. The goal of the bunny in the game of catch is to evade being caught by you and it will run fast enough to win.

5. Lies close to you: If your pet comes and lies beside you or close to you and naps then it shows it has accepted you. You do not have to necessarily pat or stroke it just let it be on its own and enjoy your company without being disturbed.

6. Your rabbit is Circling your feet: If your rabbit runs in circles around your feet then it is simply happy to see you and is greatly fond of you. This enthusiastic movement is like a dance performance by the bunny where you too can join in after the bunny has completed a few rounds. But some rabbits can get scared when circled by us giants. If this is the case you must avoid an attempt to reciprocate. Rather just enjoy the love and respect being bestowed upon you.
7. The binky: Binky is the leap of joy! Your rabbit will jump in the air twisting its head and body in the opposite direction along with kicking the hind legs and flicking the feet to the side. It is a rabbit’s way of expressing happiness. It is simply trying to tell you how happy it is to have you in its world and a sign of overall contentment in life. The bunny can also perform a half-binky that is twisting of the head and not the whole body. The rabbit could also jerk its ears in the half binky. A rabbit may flick its head either while sitting or sprinting.

Along with your love & care pet rabbits must be given the freedom they deserve. Rabbits love to spend a great amount of time hidden in cozy spots. It could be under a sofa, behind the curtains or beneath the bed.
