Persian Cat Behaviour

The Persian cats are longhaired and have a shortened muzzle and round face. Its name refers to Persia (the former name of Iran) where similar cats are found. This breed of cats has round eyes and a short nose. In addition to this, they have an unusually thick and luxuriant fur, which is known as double fur, as it has two kinds of hair i.e. soft and woolly under hair and rougher outer hair.

The behaviour of cats is often misunderstood due to incapability on the part of humans to comprehend the body language of cats correctly. Just like humans, cats use body language in order to communicate and transmit information about their moods, feelings, likes, needs, and dislikes.

Some behavioural characteristics of the Persian cats are as below:
• These cats is calm and nice-natured
• They are good with children
• They are adaptable to change
• These cats are good with other pets including dogs
• They are loving and gentle, and they can cope with house moves, family and new pets
• They need to be groomed regularly because of their long hair
• The eyes of these cats are prone to excessive watering, therefore, their eyes need wiping on a daily basis.
Further, their eyes need cleaning regularly with a special fluid for these cats as dark staining can occur
• The Flat face of these cats can sometimes cause nasal passage blockages that cause breathing problems (Respiratory problems are common in these cats)
• You may need to help these cats with hygiene especially if these cats get Diarrhoea as it is difficult for these cats to clean their long fur thoroughly
• These cats have long hair; therefore, regular combing is required
• These cats are generally described as a quiet
• They are loving, gentle, and understanding
• These cats do not like to be left alone for a very long time period
• These cats are finicky eater

This breed of cats has so much fur and she cannot keep it clean herself, therefore, it will need regular grooming and bathing. These cats should be groomed at least once in every few days otherwise the fur of these cats gets tangled and the only way to deal with this tangle hair is to shave the fur off. The long silky double layered coat of these cats frequently gets matted and it requires regular washing, combing and drying to prevent hairballs and tangles.

The Persian cats face a number of health problems. They frequently develop respiratory problems due to their flattened nose that obstructs breathing and the tear ducts as well that means the eyes and nose of these cats require daily wiping so as to clean away crusts. In addition to this, some Persian cats develop Polycystic Kidney Disease.

The rapid blinking can mean anxiety in some situations, but it can be a sign that these cats have friendly intentions and do not pose a threat to another cat. Slow blinking or half-closed eyes is generally a display of satisfaction in these cats.

All the Persian cats are loving and gentle. They seek their owner’s love and their special attention too. If you are considering a Persian cat, you need to get it vaccinated these cats at eight weeks, after that for two successive months and then, once on yearly basis. In order to maintain the health of the Persian cats, owners need to provide them with a clean environment to avoid harmful bacteria.
