Follow & LikeA bill also known as ‘The Right to Rescue Act’ was introduced in the California assembly some few months back and was aimed at awarding protection to passersby from civil penalty or being accused of committing a crime after breaking car windows to save trapped pets from severe heat conditions in parked vehicles. Fortunately, said bill was formally signed on Saturday by Governor Jerry Brown and a new law hence passed in favor of defenseless animals.

The move was triggered after the occurrence of an unending chain of unpleasant events where a lot of pet dogs trapped in hot cars lost their lives lately during summer months. New York and Pennsylvania both US states may soon follow suit once their respective pending bill is passed into a positive Act.
The intricacies of the Californian `Right to Rescue Act’ that guarantees exemption to the rescuer from facing any kind of lawsuit, do require the helpful & vigilant citizens to first inform 911 or the concerned law enforcement agency before deciding to deal with the salvage operations on their own. It is also important for the savior to wait beside the damaged car until the police reach the spot. With a delay in the arrival of a law enforcement agency, it may become unavoidable for a bystander to force its way into a locked car to save the life of a helpless dog dying of heat.
The temperature inside a stationery car is more intense compared to that of the outdoors. The inside temperature of a vehicle can rise to an unbearable level in just a few minutes. The dog owners’ careless act of leaving their pet unattended even for a very short while can cost the latter dearly. The pet can suffer a brain damage or even lose its life due to the searing heat. Keeping a window partially rolled down also does not offer the needed respite to the four legged furry-being.
California’s new law will work in saving many precious animal-lives and simultaneously creating a conscious & discerning community of pet parents.
