Zeus, The World’s Tallest Dog Dies at The Age of 5

Zeus, the Great Dane who held the world record for the tallest dog, has died at the age of five. Of Danish descent, the 165-pound Zeus made his debut in the 2012 edition of Guinness World Records as the tallest living dog in the world. He was 44 inches tall at the shoulder and 7 feet, 4 inches on his hind legs. Weighing 165 pounds, Zeus used to eat 30-pound bag of food every two weeks.

Kevin Doorlag, owner of the dog, said that Zeus died last week of old age, a few weeks shy of his sixth birthday, which he would have celebrated in November. Doorlag also said that he and his wife Denise will especially miss letting Zeus sit on their laps.

Doorlag also added that seeing the joy Zeus brought to others will be another one of those things that he will miss the most about his late pet. In addition to being an internationally renowned celebrity, Zeus was a celebrity in the Kalamazoo area and he frequently visited local hospitals and schools as a therapy dog.
