History:
German shepherd dogs were originated in 1899 in Karlsruhe, Germany. They were developed primarily by a cavalry officer Max Stephanitz who created this breed from a diverse combination of farming and sheepherding dogs for the purpose of herding sheep. German Shepherds soon became quite popular as a working dog.
German shepherd dog’s heroism and bravery was recognized as a Red Cross dog during World War I.
