Follow & LikeThe Border Collie is a dog breed that belongs to the Herding dogs. Generally, they are medium-sized and have a weight of 35 to 45 pounds. Their life span is about twelve to fifteen years. They are so energetic and workaholic that they do not like to be cuddled. This type of breed is suitable for people who like dog sports and want a dog with workaholic and agile attitude. The dog is so sensitive and playful that at times he can invent his own games.
1. Training
As they are shy, they should be well socialized to prevent it. Also, it is very difficult to attain the dog’s full attention to successfully train him. Being consistent in the training of Border Collies is very crucial as it helps the dog to remember and assimilate whatever he has learned during the previous training sessions. Border Collies are best trained by reinforcing positivity in them and by acknowledging them for their work. It will also facilitate obedience training as it consists of an important part of instilling confidence in your dog. Border Collies should undergo Crate Training which is based on their natural instincts.
2. Grooming
Grooming is certainly very crucial for Border Collies to keep their skin and coat shiny, radiating and healthy. Bathing for this dog is not essential but they must be combed and brushed regularly to maintain their shiny coat.
3. Health and Nutrition
Border Collies are very energetic dogs and have a shiny coat. So they should be given a very healthy diet including proteins, oils, moisture and vegetables. A proper vigilance is required on the amount of food given to them and do ensure proper nutrition to them as they are very energetic and have very high activity levels. Regular exercise is very essential for this breed as they need to utilize their energy in some form wither by running or playing. Border Collies must be safeguarded from certain health diseases such as epilepsy, Hip dysplasia, allergies etc.
4.Feeding
The Border collie puppy needs to be treated more like a kid. An adult dog should be given 2 cups of dry dog food each at lunch and dinner. He should be given oats with a bowl of milk for breakfast. Generally, the dog should be fed with a raw diet, such as raw bones or meat. Further, raw vegetables like spinach, zucchini, broccoli, green beans, and carrots are beneficial. If commercial processed food is available and suits your lifestyle, then such kind of food should be purchased for your dog based on nutritional values and food types. Avoid food types with flavouring, additives, preservatives, etc in their food.
