Follow & LikeRains in Chennai have reduced their fury and flood water levels are also receding but the condition at the ground level is still challenging. People are struggling to bring life back to normal amid loss of lives, infrastructure and fear of disease outbreak. With regards to the voiceless creatures of Chennai, the struggle is more enormous. The heart-warming support that the Chennaites are coming up with – both at individual and organisational level is inspiring. Organisations from diverse backgrounds are teaming up with various animal welfare groups to look after the flood-affected animals of Chennai. For instance, organisations like Chennai Trekking Club and Human Society International have clubbed with Blue Cross of India to care for the poor beings.
Listening to the silent pleas for help, NGOs and general public are pooling resources and funds for food, medicines and shelter for animals like dogs, cats and cows. The scared, injured and starving animals of Chennai range from dogs, cats, cows to donkeys, snakes and rare animals like pangolin.
