The modern breed of the Great Dane has been originated from Denmark in Germany. They were recognized by the American Kennel Club in the year 1877. It is a German breed of domestic dogs. They are now being used for the purpose of carting, protection, etc. They have their roots in mastiffs, which later crossed to wolfhound and then changed to the greyhound. Before getting known to the people, they were firstly seen on the walls of the Egyptian monuments. Earlier, they were meant for the hunting, but now they are used as an estate guard. Not only for protection, is this breed of dogs also used for several other purposes like carting, tracking, etc.

Appearance: The Great Danes are large giants with triangular ears if kept in their natural state will droop towards its cheeks, whereas, if set down on by an individual, then they are cropped towards its head. They have a strong, smooth and powerful muscular body and short hair on their body. They have their body in the shape of a square and the head in the shape of a triangle. They have round paws with dark toe nails. Also, they have a tail always carried high along with straight front legs. They are very short and thickly coated.
