New Delhi finally has got its first 24x7 veterinary hospital in Tis Hazari, first of its kind in India.
The hospital was inaugurated in the national capital by the honorable Delhi Development Minister Gopal Rai. At the inauguration event of the first-of-its-kind facility in Delhi, the minister said such veterinary facilities will be opened in all the eleven districts of the city.
The hospital which until operated during the day will be functional in three shifts viz. 08:00 AM to 02:00 PM, 02:00 PM to 08:00 PM and 08:00 PM to 08:00 AM. It comprises of a team having five doctors and four Multi tasking staff.
This step taken by the Delhi Government is part of the recently announced 'Animal Health and Welfare Policy, 2018' in which the hospital will give key attention to issues such as birth control of Monkeys, cow shelter home and sterilization of stray dogs. An electronic chip system has been set up in the vicinity so that the owners can track their deserted pets easily.
As reported by the Times of India, Minister Gopal Rai said that the city didn’t have a single hospital for animals in Delhi which operated round the clock, which eventually forced people to wait even if the animal was seriously injured or unwell.
As of now, the government is running a pilot but it would soon become a permanent facility. He also said that the facility will be opened in 11 districts in the city quickly.
Note: For immediate assistance, a round-the-clock helpline number 01123967555 has been launched by the Animal Husbandry Department. The helpline number can also be used to book appointments or get additional information pertaining to the facilities available in the hospital.
This is the first of a kind initiative in the capital which is expected to bring delight to the animal lovers in the city. Almost all the treatments including vaccination for rabies and other medicines are provided free of cost.
Speaking to ANI, Nisha, a pet owner, showed her delight by saying “I come here often. It has become very convenient for people. Many people are not able to visit the hospital in the morning or in the afternoon, They can meet the doctors during night time. Doctors are available here all the time now.”
Currently, the hospital is offering treatment to 120 - 125 animals on a daily basis. The numbers are expected to rise in the summer.
