Health

The health of the Akbash can be considered privileged, as there is no relevant evidence of disease among dogs of this breed. Just beware of diseases that are common in dogs of the same size: hypothyroidism, gastric torsion and hip dysplasia.

Curiosities

The Turkish name Akbash means "white head" and the dog's coat helps it to be camouflaged in the herd and more easily surprise predators who risk getting closer.

Intelligence

As said, the Akbash is quite intelligent and, even if he doesn't have the energy he appears to have, he is a dog that likes activities and doesn't think twice about acting when he is called for a guard or herding "job". Consistent training with a positive approach is highly recommended. If you have another dog at home, let the two learn together to fine-tune the partnership between the canines.

Temperament

Early socialization is important so that the dog can interact well with children and, above all, respect the space of other pets. Brave, the furry will growl and bark every time it senses something is wrong. With strangers it will be no different, but you will hardly have an overly aggressive posture. And don't be surprised if after a while of playing he decides to move away and be isolated a little, dogs of this breed don't give up enjoying some time alone.
