Health

The American Curl is one of the healthiest breeds out there. There is no known genetic disease in this cat, so it can live for a long time. A problem that has already been reported in some specimens is progressive retinal atrophy, a disease that can lead to blindness. However, there are not enough studies to determine if there is a predisposition in the breed. Ear infections or ear infections are a concern that parents should have, as the curved anatomy makes them difficult to clean, making them a pleasant environment for bacteria, fungi and mites.

Curiosities

Did you know that the American Curl is not born with a curved ear? Gradually, this kitten's ear goes back and conforms to the way we know it - this from five to 10 days after birth. Up to four months of age, the ears can unroll and curl again until they reach their fixed shape.

Intelligence

Think of an intelligent and meticulous cat, this is the American Curl. As stated earlier, it is not uncommon for them to know how to open door handles with a jump or the doors of closets. As much as they are not so active, it is necessary to mentally stimulate the breed with interactive games and jokes often. Temperament

The American Curl is known for being the “Peter Pan” of the feline world. It is not uncommon for even elderly cats of this breed to be young in spirit and to be running around the house and jumping on furniture. The breed loves to play and have fun, especially when people interact with it, but it is not very active. He will often prefer to be on the couch next to you while watching television. The American Curl is quite healthy and youthful for life. There are specimens that have reached 20 years of age, but the life expectancy of the breed is 12 to 16 years.
