Its fur is very smooth and extremely close to the body. Short, it is easy to maintain, but a brushing every three days with gloves specially created for dogs is essential to maintain its shine and eliminate dead hair. Its most common color is fawn (reddish), but there are black, blue, brindle, gray and light gold specimens. In all variations, blank markings (especially on the paws and chest) are accepted.
An azawakh does not need very special care, but like all dogs that can run a lot, they can have a tendency to run away, so it is very important to always keep them indoors and never take them outside. with a loose lead or with someone unable to hold it. Their skin is very thin and poorly protected by fur, so they can easily cut themselves during play and sharp objects.
