Health

Medium and large females, due to the large double chin, as is the case of the Chinchilla breed variations, are more susceptible to the development of moist dermatitis in the double chin ("wet double chin"), especially in the hottest times of the year. It is believed to be related to the humidity in the double chin region, which becomes wet or even soaked due to water consumption, predisposing to the occurrence of an inflammatory process. In this way, it is recommended to keep the pet always dry and clean, in addition to giving preference to "nipple" type drinkers instead of open water pots. Giant breeds are more likely to develop cardiomyopathy and joint disease.

Curiosities

Giant Chinchilla rabbits grow very fast and can weigh from 2.2 to 2.7 kg at just eight weeks of age. In general, puppies are born with a very dark color, almost black, and a lighter belly. After the first moult, the puppies present a grayish color, but it is lost around the fourth month, giving way to a shaded tone, and only between the seventh and eighth month that the characteristic color of the breed appears. Females have a relatively large double chin (fold of skin ventral to the neck). Rabbit breeding is legal in Brazil, and it is possible to find breeders in different regions of the country.

They are intelligent and can be tamed easily.

Temperament

They are docile and playful rabbits, making great companions.

Lifetime

Life expectancy can reach 10 years. Larger breeds tend to have a longer lifespan compared to small breeds.
