Rex rabbits are less resistant to diseases in general compared to other breeds, so follow-up with a veterinarian specializing in unconventional pets (wild and exotic) is essential. In addition, due to the little layer of fur on the soles of the paws and the absence of pads ("pads") - normal in lagomorphs - Rex rabbits are more susceptible to injuries, inflammatory and infectious processes on the paws and hocks (back of the leg that touches the ground when the animal sits), known as pododermatitis. In this way, it is important that the tutor makes a regular inspection of your pet's paws in search of any injury so that it is treated early, avoiding possible complications.

Curiosities

The word “Rex” comes from Latin, meaning “King”, and was used as a name for the breed because of its unique and graceful coat. They have high newborn mortality. Females produce a relatively small amount of fur to make the nest and accommodate the young (laparous). Rabbit breeding is legal in Brazil, and it is possible to find breeders in different regions of the country.

Intelligence

They are intelligent, but it takes persistence, patience and time to train them. Training a rabbit is not the same thing as training a dog, but it is totally possible.

Temperament

Friendly and affectionate, they like to receive attention and affection.

Lifetime

They live around six to eight years, average for rabbits in general. The longevity of rabbits is directly related to the well-being and quality of life provided by the tutor.
