Although records of short-legged cats appear since 1944, the "official" breed originated from a mutation in a litter in 1983 in Louisiana. Britain's main cat registration body refuses to recognize the breed. The justification is that these cats are bred to be cute, regardless of their health problems and that this is not right with felines.
