The Pekingese dog is usually in good health, but herniated discs and patellar dislocation (a kind of wrong “fit” of the knee joint) can be a reality in some dogs. Your bulging eyes beg you to beware of accidents - as corneal ulceration and even eyeball prolapse can occur (when the eyes "bulge" out and need quick medical attention to reverse this condition) The wrinkles on a Pekingese's face should never be damp. The region must be inspected daily and always cleaned with specific products to avoid developing problems with fungi that cause a bad smell in the region. Their fur needs to be brushed at least every other day, as they can develop knots quite easily.

Curiosities

Believe it or not: Pekingese dogs were commonly carried inside the coats of their aristocratic owners. On some occasions, they were placed in pockets or even in the sleeve! The Pekingese is in the Lhasa Apso and Shih Tzu genetics.

Intelligence

Because they are typically companions, Pekingese are often obedient to their human parents, but they don't take orders from other people very well. It's not common to see trained Pekingese, but generally speaking, when the work is done with their favorite humans, it usually goes well.

Temperament

Although an independent dog, the Pekingese usually chooses one or two family members as his favorites. These people will be followed by him wherever they go and will have the company of the furry at all times. Staying on the couch, accompanying your tutor while watching television is up to him! But when someone decides to get involved, that can be a problem: Pekingese are quite possessive and protective. Teach your pet from an early age that visitors and other people in the house (like children, for example) are not a threat.
