Health

Sloughis are generally quite healthy, but they are predisposed to some health problems like progressive retinal atrophy and ear infections. As with all breeds, periodic visits to the veterinarian are important to prevent future complications.

Curiosities

Although Sloughi are great - and fast - hunting dogs, they can also be used as family guard dogs, due to the breed's strong sense of defense.

Intelligence

Sloughis are extremely intelligent and respond very well to fair and gentle training. However, the breed is not suitable for first-time parents, as they are quite stubborn in nature thanks to the hunting instinct present in the specimens.

Temperament

The Sloughi is very affectionate, gentle, and very faithful to members of the human family, but somewhat reserved in the presence of strangers. He is calm and gets along well with children and other animals, as long as he is socialized early, as the hunting instinct can be present if he is not exposed to new people, pets, sounds, different environments and situations from childhood.

Lifetime

Sloughi breeds live an average of 12 to 16 years.
